Tihrán is the largest city in Írán and its capital, and is very important in Bahá’í history. Bahá'u'lláh was born in Tihrán, as were Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahiyyih Khánum and Mírzá Mihdí. In addition to converting to the Bábí Faith in Tihrán, Bahá'u'lláh was made aware of His Revelaton during his imprisonment in Tihrán’s infamous Síyáh-Chál (Black Pit). Bahá'u'lláh said of the city that it was, “the dayspring of His (God’s) light,” and, “the source of joy of all mankind.”
