What is the Bahá'í Glossary?

The Bahá'í vocabulary has many Arabic and Persian words that may be unfamiliar to non-native speakers and newcomers to the Bahá'í Faith. This glossary is designed to help Bahá'ís learn to pronounce these words according to the pronunciation guide established and promoted by Shoghí Effendí.

Title: The Guardian

Shoghí Effendí Rabbání (March 1, 1897 - November 4, 1957), was appointed as the head of the Bahá'í Faith in Abdu’l-Bahá’s Will and Testament. Abdu’l-Bahá refers to Shoghi Effendi as the “..the sign of God, the chosen branch, the guardian of the Cause of God….” and, “…the Interpreter of the Word of God.” Shoghi Effendi served as the Center of the Cause from 1921 until his death in 1957. In Bahá'í circles, he is commonly referred to as the Guardian.
