What is the Bahá'í Glossary?

ناصرالدین
Title: Shahanshah of Persia

Náṣiri’d-Dín Sháh was the Sháh of Írán from September 17, 1848 until May 1, 1896 when he was assassinated by the follower of a noted Muslim political activist. He was the son of Mohammad Sháh Qajar and was one of the longest reigning monarchs in Persian history. He presided over the trial of the Báb and it was under his orders that the Báb was executed. During his reign thousands of Bábís were put to death for no discernable cause other than that they were followers of the Báb. Bahá'u'lláh referred to him as the “Prince of Oppressors”.
