What is the Bahá'í Glossary?

The Bahá'í vocabulary has many Arabic and Persian words that may be unfamiliar to non-native speakers and newcomers to the Bahá'í Faith. This glossary is designed to help Bahá'ís learn to pronounce these words according to the pronunciation guide established and promoted by Shoghí Effendí.

کاشان
Place: Kashan, Iran

shán is a city in the province of Isfáhán, Írán. By road, it is approximately 150 miles (245 km) south of Tihrán. At the instruction of the Báb, Mullá Husayn went to Káshán to proclaim the new Revelation. The Báb, while traveling under armed guard, stayed in Káshán for three days on His way to Tabríz and then to Máh-kú. While in Káshán, the Báb was the guest of Hájí Mírzá Jání, the first person in the city to accept the claim of the Báb during Mullá Husayn's earlier visit.

Coincidentally, Mírzá Taqí Khán, the man who ordered the execution of the Báb, was assassinated on January 10, 1852 in the bath house in Fin garden, just outside the city. His assassination was ordered by Násiri’d-Dín Sháh and was carried out by Mírzá Taqí Khán's protege.
