Huqúqu’lláh, or the Right of God, is a spiritual law instituted in the Kitáb-i-Aqdas. Upon acquiring wealth of 19 mithqáls of gold (about 2.2 troy ounces), Bahá’ís have a spiritual obligation to offer 19% of the total to Universal House of Justice. This payment is made only once on each increase of 19 mithqáls of gold and spiritually purifies the individual’s earthly possessions. There are some exemptions to the Right of God, such as one’s residence.
